Everything You Need to Know About the Four-Season 4000'er List
In just a few weeks we will be transitioning to spring and with the change in season comes a whole new opportunity to bag some peaks for a whole different kind of hiking list, the Four-Season White Mountain Four Thousand Footer challenge. This is the newest hiking challenge overseen by the AMC Four Thousand Footer Club and was announced at the April awards night in 2016.
In our previous post about the four-thousand footer winter hiking challenge we went over a lot of the basics about the committee that oversees these hiking challenges as well as the rules for completing each of the peaks on the list so in lieu of repeating ourselves we ask that you check out our winter four-thousand footer post here for the background on the 4000’er committee and rules.
What the Four-Season 4000’er List Entails
The four-season hiking challenge requires that you summit each of the forty-eight 4000’ers during each of the four seasons. Completing this hiking challenge will mean that you summit each peak four times. Given the fact that there are forty-eight peaks, if you summitted each peak on its own (instead of peak bagging them) you will have done 192 individual hikes to finish this list. Now that’s a lot of hiking!
What we love about this hiking challenge is that on top of completing the hiking you are also required to complete forty-eight hours of trail work in order to qualify as a finisher. This trail work must be done within the state of New Hampshire and no more than 24 hours of trail work can have been completed before 2015. Additionally, the trail work must be done under the guidance of an established organization that is involved in trail work and the work cannot be counted for other hiking challenges on top of this one (no double-dipping).
The 4000’er committee has created a wonderful spreadsheet to help you keep track of all of this hiking here and we highly recommend you use this (or your own version) to stay organized.
