Welcome to The New England Hiker, a website dedicated to all things hiking in New England. This site is the brainchild of avid solo hiker Rebecca Sperry.

The audience we hope to reach are those interested in short long trails (anywhere from 20 to 250 miles) and day hikes specifically in New England. We are geared towards the weekend warrior that can’t take six months off work to hit a long trail. Our content is intended for audiences that have no hiking experience and for those who have thousands of miles under their feet but are looking for niche, obscure trails to explore in New England.

Our goal is to share routes, White Mountain history, hiking tips, and blogs chronicling Sperry’s backcountry adventures.

Our mission is to encourage you to explore places that you’ve never seen, share White Mountain history, educate about trail safety, Leave No Trace, and wilderness ethics, and to provide a full spectrum of hiking routes for all types of hikers.

About the Editor-In-Chief

Sperry has put down over 6,000 miles exclusively on the single track that etches its way along the rugged, rocky, and rooty trails of the northeast. Where switchbacks are almost unheard of, and a drainage is more likely to be the trail, Sperry has taken on all of what the White Mountains of New Hampshire have thrown at her, and she does it almost exclusively solo. When she’s not on an obscure trail in the middle of the wilderness, she can be found on top of some of the most unforgiving spots in the northern Presidential Range, or even as far north as Baxter Peak in Maine.

Sperry has spent the better part of the last decade of her life not only devoted to hiking on weekends and summer breaks but also giving back to the trails that she loves so much. She has been a volunteer trail adopter for the last three years with the White Mountain National Forest and encourages others to give back to the trails through her writing. As not only a personal blog but a resource for the local hiking community, The New England Hiker is dedicated to those who are looking to hit any of the popular hiking trails found in the northeast and the trails that you wouldn’t think to visit.
